MUMBAI, India – Goa Tourism wants to promote the State as one with “hidden treasures” in the upcoming Goa International Travel Mart (GITM) 2011 from October 21 to 23.

Organised and jointly promoted by the Department of Tourism, the Government of Goa and Goa Tourism Development Corporation in association with ITB Berlin, GITM 2011 will see global representatives from the tourism and travel industry.

Mr Swapnil Naik, Director, Goa Tourism, said the support from ITB Berlin will help take the mart to the next level. He added that Goa Tourism wants to build synergies with neighbouring States such as Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka on the western coast to create wholesome tourist circuits.

Tourists can experience spice farms, river cruises, spas and the tropical rainforests of the State.

“Goa is a premier holiday destination and is placed firmly on the global travel map. The first edition of GITM held last year spearheaded its growth further, bringing better opportunities to the travel and tourism trade,” said Mr Melvyn Vaz, Managing Director, Goa Tourism and Development Corporation (GTDC).

GITM 2011, the organisers said, will promote the entire western coastal region of India, bringing together many States on a common platform. The organisers plan to attract over 2,500 trade visitors to the event. “The target is to have 450 hosted buyers, including international-hosted buyers. Indian travel trade associations like Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), have confirmed support and participation at GITM 2011,” Mr Vaz said.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has come on board as a wellness partner and will bring a speaker of global repute from the health industry to speak about Thailand’s wellness offerings.
