Minister Derek Hanekom, the Minister of Tourism of South Africa, and Mrs. Hanekom, on Sunday night welcomed Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, and Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, to Johannesburg.

The meeting over dinner at the Johannesburg Four Season’s Hotel was the opportunity for the two tourism ministers to discuss the existing cooperation between their two countries in the field of tourism and their respective involvement in the move to see tourism better driven by the African Union.

The participation of South Africa at the coming 2016 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria in Seychelles was also discussed as was the increase of flights by Air Seychelles to South Africa.

It is widely known that the two tourism ministers are friends and both believe that by working together they can help their respective country’s tourism industries and also help South Africa claim a fairer share of the world’s tourism business.

This latest meeting between Minister Hanekom of South Africa and Minister St.Ange of the Seychelles was also the opportunity for the Seychelles Minister to present his South African counterpart with a Coco de Mer that is today a prized souvenir from the Seychelles. The unique Coco de Mer is an endemic nut of the Seychelles and sits in the Guinness World Records book as the heaviest nut in the world.
