In its desire to showcase Reunion Island beyond its own borders, Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) has based its Honorary Ambassador program on the foundation of its own women and men who are known and recognized in the world of sports, culture, and the arts. This Friday, April 25, 2014, pianist Cedric Duchemann will join that important network of Honorary Ambassadors of Reunion Island.

Since 2011, 42 individuals have been named Honorary Ambassadors by the IRT. Today, Cedric Duchemann received his honorary title from Francois Boyer, Director of the IRT and representative of Gites de France, at the Villa Angelica.

Reunion Island pianist Cedric Duchemann “found his first chords and ear [for music] at the same time [on] a small family keyboard,” he says. At 15, he recorded his first album with family and friends under the name Bann’Dalons – a traditional album honoring the sega, one of the major music genres of Mauritius.

For him, jazz also takes a place of pride, especially since his meeting with the group of world jazz-fusion, Sixun, during a concert at the outdoor theater of Saint-Gilles.

Having played alongside many artists, including Caf Kreol, Jazz Islands, and Ti-Fock, and Lucay Canon Manyan, Cedric Duchemann decided to try his luck in France where he completed his musical training. He took on odd jobs at musical events, and quickly joined a trio, playing in a style influenced by Latin and Caribbean music, in addition to his Indo-roots style of music. Cedric Duchemann, along with Eric Scellier in the Rides Margoz project played at the Five Continents Jazz Festival in Marseille in 2005. He then recorded an album with his band, Zepis, which was released in December 2012.

Today, Cedric Duchemann “adds a new string to his piano,” joining the circle of Honorary Ambassadors of Reunion Island. His mission: to make known and pass along his love for Reunion Island.

Cedric Duchemann and his group, Zepis, will perform at the O Tapas Pub this Saturday, April 26, 2014, in Saint-Pierre starting at 2130 hours, jazzing up the south side of Reunion Island!
