Efforts to market the country to new markets have stepped up a gear with the arrival of a 42-member Kenyan delegation in Italy for a special Kenya Tourism and Cultural Week.

Tourism minister Najib Balala who is leading the delegation was expected to arrive in Milan last evening.

Currently, Italy is third in terms of tourist arrivals to Kenya.

Kenya was invited to participate in the Milan Cultural week which attracts more than 1.2 million people when Mr Balala visited the city in May to reassure the Italian market that Kenya is safe. Kenya Tourists Board official Jacinta Nzioka, who is among those attending the event said she expected the Kenyan stand to attract a huge number of visitors.

The Kenyan event coincides with the Milan Fashion Week and an economic forum expected to be attended by Trade and Industry minister Uhuru Kenyatta and other top officials from the Ministry of Planning and National Development officials.

Key Italian icons such as Kuki Gallmann, the world renowned conservationist, writer, and poet with connections to Kenya will participate.

Her famous book and Movie I Dreamed of Africa will be showcased and she will visit the Kenya stand.
