Tourism to North Queensland, Australia had some challenges this weekend. Tropical North Queensland came with heavy rain over the weekend and has not put a dampener on holidays in Tropical North Queensland with bookings coming in for the Easter break.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland Chief Executive Officer Pip Close said last minute holidays were still possible across a range of North Queensland hotels and resorts across the region.
“The heavy rain experienced on Sunday did force rainforest tours to stop yesterday and today, but they are resuming on Tuesday,” she said.
“Safety checks are underway on the line for Kuranda Scenic Railway so the train can resume services on the weekend.
“The weather is very calm out on the Great Barrier Reef ensuring a smooth ride for anyone wanting to dive and snorkel.
“Port Douglas has more than 80 per cent of rooms filled for Easter and operators have reported that there have been no cancellations for the holiday period.
“The weather bureau has forecast better conditions for Easter so we are looking forward to welcoming holidaymakers to Tropical North Queensland to experience the beauty of our dual World Heritage areas.”
